March 2026 Business Due Dates: A Guide for Inland Empire Owners

For business owners across Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, and Riverside, March is arguably the most significant month on the tax calendar. While April gets the mainstream attention, March 16th is the heavy lifter for the entities that drive our local economy—specifically Partnerships and S Corporations.

Whether you run a medical practice in Upland, a logistics fleet in San Bernardino, or manage real estate investments throughout the Inland Empire, this month requires precise attention to detail. Missing these dates can trigger penalties and delay the K-1s your investors and partners are waiting for.

March 2: The "Paper" Cut-Off and Special Industries

While most modern businesses in California now e-file to ensure security and speed, there are specific deadlines for those who still file paper returns or fall into specialized categories.

Information Returns (Paper Filing)

If you are one of the few businesses still filing paper versions of Forms 1099 and 1096 for payments made in 2025 (excluding the 1099-NEC which was due earlier), this is your deadline. This also applies to paper filings for reporting gambling winnings (Form W-2G).

A note for our local trucking and logistics companies: If you are filing ACA forms (1094-C, 1095-C) on paper, they must be submitted by this date. However, remember that the IRS has lowered the threshold for mandatory electronic filing, so most of you will likely follow the March 31st e-filing deadline instead.

Farmers and Fishermen

For our clients in the agricultural sectors surrounding the Inland Empire, March 2 is the deadline to file your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040) and pay any tax due, unless you already paid your estimated tax by January 15.

Large Food and Beverage Establishments

Restaurants and hospitality businesses reporting tip income via paper Form 8027 must file by today. E-filers have until the end of the month.

March 16: The Big One for Entities

This is the "Super Bowl" for many of our local businesses. If you operate as a flow-through entity, your return is due now. This timing is critical because your personal return (due in April) cannot be completed until these entity returns generate your Schedule K-1s.

Partnerships (Form 1065)

Real estate syndicates, investment groups, and multi-member LLCs must file Form 1065. You must also provide each partner with their Schedule K-1. In the competitive Inland Empire real estate market, investors are often anxious to receive these so they can finalize their own taxes.

S Corporations (Form 1120-S)

Many doctors, dentists, and private clinics in the region operate as S Corporations to optimize self-employment taxes. You must file Form 1120-S and provide Schedule K-1s to all shareholders.

Strategic Move: S Corporation Election (Form 2553)

If you are operating as an LLC and have been considering taxation as an S Corp to save on taxes for 2026, you must file Form 2553 by March 16. This is a common strategy for profitable medical practices and owner-operator trucking businesses looking to manage cash flow more efficiently. Filing late means the status won't apply until 2027.

Extension Requests

If your books aren't ready—perhaps you are waiting on data from a third-party logistics provider or a property manager—you must file Form 7004 by this date to secure a 6-month extension. Note that this is an extension to file, not an extension to pay taxes owed.

March 31: The E-Filing Finale

For the vast majority of businesses in Rancho Cucamonga and Ontario, this is the final cutoff for electronic filing of information returns.

  • Forms 1099 and W-2G: E-file deadline with the IRS.
  • ACA Reporting (ALE): Forms 1094-C, 1095-C, 1094-B, and 1095-B must be e-filed.
  • Tip Reporting: Form 8027 e-filing deadline.

A Note on Extensions and Disasters

Living in Southern California, we know that environmental factors can impact business operations. If a federally declared disaster area affects your zone, the IRS may automatically extend these dates. Always verify the current status if you have been impacted by recent severe weather.
